The letter E has an average frequency of 17.39% and is therefore classified the most common letter in the German
language. Reason enough to take a look at the fifth letter of our alphabet from a new perspective and even dedicate a
whole book to it. Information Design students of the FH JOANNEUM in Graz visualised the frequency of the letter E in
our society, its usage but also intentionally created alienations. The significance of the letter E in our language,
possibilities and connections between culture, language and design are shown in the most diverse ways.
The publication reveals various approaches to the topic through photographic works, playful and gastronomic
representations, as well as typographic, artistic or architectural methods of visualisation. Remarkable texts, analogue
and digital illustrations or sewing works clearly show: The letter E is actually much more than just a stem and three
arms.
